John;
You are correct. When VFP 3.0 Beta was released I built my first framework. It took three iterations before I was reasonably satisfied. I was working on my own, which made sense at the time as Visual FoxPro was new and there was no framework available. After analyzing CodeBook and attending the Flash Road Show, I stopped all thoughts of creating my own framework. Unless you are being paid to develop a framework it is a waste of time.
As far as frameworks I use either Visual Fox Express or Visual MaxFrame Professional. It depends upon the client’s needs. There are several forums where you can go to ask or answer user questions. If you develop your own framework you can answer your own questions. The famous software developer question: “Is it billable”? If you are working for a company that develops frameworks then your time and effort is well spent. Trying to create, update and maintain a framework as well as client applications is a waste of an individuals time and effort.
