Hi Doug,

I wasn't aware of the opposition out West. Yesterday was the 11th anniversary of the shootings at the Polytechnique School here, where 14 young women were killed, and the new gun control measures are in large part the result of the work of survivors and relatives of the victims of that tragedy. The local paper here ran a summary of the issues, and although the article doesn't mention actual numbers, it does suggest a strong reduction in gun-related crime and firearm homicide since measures began being put into place.
I'd say registration is a pretty small price to pay for that kind of benefit.
