If the Adobe PDF Writer is prohibitively complex to install, the other suggestions I might make would impose significantly more work to install, such as GhostScript. Regardless of the cost issue, the PDF solution is probably the easiest course of action; you could create Word documents, but now you need Word installed on each system, etc. It's possible to install the Adobe control by including the Adobe PDF Writer install as a part of your install and running it in the course of the installation, but this requires you to use a significantly moire capable installation product, and raises the issue of proper licensing of the writer, which is not distributable royalty-free. The same problems exist with things like the Amiyuni PDF Distiller.
