Have you tried clicking on the preview, on my sysstem this changes the magnification of the preview from normal to VERY small [ which shows a full page layout but is unreadable, like you report.]
Yes there were lots of problems in this area that were fixed by the service packs, I guess you are on the latest version which is service pack 4.
