I believe you. But your experience was not the norm. I grew up then, too, in another part of the country. Aren't we about the same age?
My father left when I was 7. He had beaten my mother to within an inch of her life one too many times, and she was tired of it. She chased him out with a sawed-off shotgun. She got no help from the police, did not collect welfare, and worked three jobs to try to feed herself and the three of us. Pardon me if I don't think the 50's were all Della Reese and the Beav.

That's great! We've been taking lots of photos and have had them "printed" on CD as we go. I just haven't gotten them up on a web site yet. I'm working on moving to a new hosting company, and want to be all set up and ready to go for e-commerce the first of the year. There are just some more details to work out.

I'm sure our house won't be as grand as yours, but its going to be nice anyhow. 20 acres at the south end of the Santa Ana mountains, on a small plateau with an expansive view to the south. We can see some 80 miles of the California coast from our home site. We are planning to build a prow front post-and-beam style house. It will be about 2000 square feet on the main floor, and will have a walkout basement and a loft. It should be very roomy for two people.

Now I'm just working hard to pay for it all...
