>>Well, I see we're on opposite sides of the fence again. Consider what's now on tv compared to 20 years ago. There's so much smut now on regular tv that the producers would have been arrested for this back then.

>I agree the krud was more buried at different points in time, but it has always been there. Some time back, prostitution was legal. It was very common for saloons to have prostitutes to entertain the patrons. Until about 30 years ago, pot was legal. About 80 years ago cocaine and heroine were legal. It used to be legal to beat your wife as long as you used a thin enough stick. It was legal for small children to work, and there was no requirement that they go to school. 12 hour work days, 6 days a week was normal. People fought hard to "reduce" the work week to 54 hours.

>I don't want to go "back" to this junk... not even to prevent the publication of trash like Hustler. Freedom of the press has helped shine a light on a lot of terrible situations, and has caused many cleanups to happen. A little smut isn't enough for me to want to stamp out the first amendment.

I don't think Doug was intimating that we go back to slavery or any other unseemly time. He was advocating a turn back to common decency, which I agree with. Television promotes everything under the sun, and most of it not good. They can't sell anything without using sex. We never had metal detectors in school when I was a kid. A drive by was when you drove by someone's house to see if they were home. It's much worse today than just twenty years ago. However, I believe it is an ebb and flow. It's just time for the pendulum to go the other direction for a while!
