>Can we identify what kinds of politeness and decency we're looking for, and shape the world the way we would like to see it? Rolling back the clock isn't even possible, and with each of us having different recollections and different backgrounds, I don't see how we can even agree on which decade we want back.

>To me, the 50's were a nightmare. To Newt, they were a fond memory. How about we think about the next decade and try to shape it into something worth remembering?

I think we're saying the same thing. However, I don't believe we're progressing. Things are getting worse in terms of morality. Our leaders aren't, and truth has become situational.

Who said anything about Newt? He's not a leader in the conservative movement. Unlike Clinton, Newt was removed from power because he failed to practice what he preached. This is one of the biggest differences I see between liberals and conservatives. Liberals tend to either support Clinton or wink at what he did. I can't recall hearing any conservatives standing up saying Newt should still be in a leadership position.

To me it's like a preacher who has an affair. He should never be a preacher again, even though he may still be a christian. There is a duty to uphold the dignity of the position. Newt stepped down, the preacher should step down, and Clinton should have done likewise. Of course the good thing is that he will likely be the chancellor at Oxford and Hillary a senator in New York. That means they'll both be living in foreign countries!!!!!
