The key word in the above sentence is "AN". Whatever profane word you have in mind is perhaps "AN" expression of feeling, but not necessarily the ONLY possible expression of that feeling.

I'd say it's more like "Don't express those feelings publicly (or in this setting, or whatever the situation may be) using those particular words". I'm talking about the concepts of diplomacy, discretion, self-control, respect for others, etc. How you express your feelings privately is of no one's concern, and you certainly have freedom of choice to use words that might not be appropriate in other settings.
