>>Nope, not EVAL().

But you *can* evaluate expressions from VB or ASP using the VBScript control. EVAL() isn't so difficult to emulate.

I'm not sure why you say you can "fake" textmerge with a function, either. Textmerge can handle expressions which would be very difficult to emulate without an EVAL() facility. Even then, the difficulty of parsing and evaluating embedded expressions puts it in the "too hard" basket IMHO.

Having said that, I do use EVAL() fairly widely to populate databases from web forms to avoid the VB-like parsing of parameters for hardcoded field population or SP parameters. You are right, a decent EVAL() makes sense.

So it is "inline/online parsing" in all its forms that makes the difference. I stand corrected.

yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act

piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
