1. Check and make sure you can ping the server from client.

2. Make sure the server is listening on a TCP/IP port. Run the SQL
Server setup if it is not configured for TCP/IP.

3. Create an ODBC DSN for SQL Server on the client. In the server name,
type either the IP address or the URL of the server.

4. In the Client Network Utility specify TCP/IP as the protocol.

That should do it.
