When I tested this, the assign methods I had did not fire if I assigned the properties directly from an outside source (e.g. from VB). However, if something on the inside of my COM server assigned a value, the Assign method would fire.

I was going to do some extra processing and I thought about using a wrapper method to assign the property so the Assign would fire but that was redundant so I put the extra stuff in the wrapper method.

This was in SP3. I don't know if it has changed in SP4. I haven't tested it.
