Oh, yeah. It's still much faster.
A lot of areas don't have 2-way cable modems yet, so it's cable download and 56k upload. You'll have to check your area.
Also, this sort of bottleneck usually only occurs in apartment buildings or heavily populated neighborhoods, because there are so many people sharing the same line.
So, if you don't live in this kind of neighborhood, or have updated technology (mine's 2 years old now), it might not slow down too much anymore the more people get on it.

>>>I just installed a cable modem at my house. The connection speeds are truly mind-boggling. I have never participated in the Friday discussion groups because my connection was so awful, it wasn't worth it. I see a whole ne venue of opportunity presenting itself here..

>>We've had one for a couple of years now, and loved it until so many people in our building got on board. Now it slows down depending on how many people are logged in as to how are speed is.

>>My wife and I will be moving back to Tejas pretty soon - out in the boonies - so I was very glad to see that 2-way satellite is now available. Woo-hoo! We'll have to push that VPN and see how it works!
Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
