A lovely picture, James!

I wouldn't worry, though. At two they are in the middle of the dependence/independence quandry and I'm sure he gets a sense of security by sitting in your chair and 'doing your work'. As he becomes more social and develops friendships with other kids he'll spend less time "being you" and eventually find his own balance. Of course he could STILL end up a teenage computer genius like Mike Helland - I'm sure you wouldn't want that! < grin >

The worst part is when they're 2 or 5 or 10 and do something you didn't know could be done on the computer - let alone know how to do.

>I came home from work tonight to find my two-year-old son, Andrew, fast asleep at my computer. In his right hand was the mouse and his head was resting lightly on the keyboard. I spend so much time tinkering on my machine, banging out new ideas, that I often sat Andrew on my lap as a small baby to spend quality time with him while navigating the computer with one arm.

>Andrew, eager to be like Daddy, now wants to spend all his time on the computer. He has figured out how to turn the computer on and off (without using the start button, unfortunately) and can manipulate files with the mouse and keyboard. I've had to lock the workstation to keep him from inadvertantly destroying my profile!

>Although it fills me with pride to see my son sitting at the computer with a kind of intensity that only a programmer would have, I don't know if I should be concerned or not. Afterall, I look at the geek I've become, and I wonder if that's really what I want for my son. One thing is for sure, by the time he is old enough to read, he will be fluent on the computer.
