At this point we have restored the valid to default - none. We still have the problem. It's VFP's internal date checking, not the valid statement, that is acting as if it has put the message "Invalid Date - press SPACE" on the screen when in fact it is not visible. The behavior is consistent with a SET NOTIFY setting that was not the default and not selected in code.
