Hello Robert...
it sounds like the grid isn't a member of the container that you think it is. To be sure, click on the grid (make sure you have selected the grid) and CUT it (right click, choose cut, or just alt-X) and then select the container you want it in and right-click, edit, and thenpast the grid on. If the parent container loses editmode when you highlight the grid, then the grid wasn't really a member of the container, it was just on top of it. HTH
