Erik;
Thank you Erik for your comments. When the media mentions guns and Texas they start quoting things like “an average of five guns per person, the highest in the nation", "Waco", "concealed weapons", etc. It is refreshing to see a sensible viewpoint on this subject. My own feeling is that the “Wild West” is long gone and there are those who want to revive it.
As a Viet Nam Vet I have seen enough of guns for a lifetime. I do not feel compelled to buy a 44 magnum to defend myself against the “evil that surrounds me”. There is too little time in my life for paranoia so I prefer to engage in activities less destructive. Ignorance is bliss and I wish to be a blissful person. If things were as bad as some people thing perhaps we should surround our houses with Barbed Wire, Claymore Mines and 50 caliber machine guns for starters.
If guns were truly the answer then I would expect there to be no crime in
Texas and no one in jail. I have a good friend from Oklahoma, also a Viet Nam Vet. My friend has a great expression: “Let’s hang the guilty bastard and give him a fair trial”! I can see the replies now!
Tom
