I understand your point. I have been fooled from time to time, but over the years, I've learned to be a pretty good judge of character. It's a matter of developing discernment, paying close attention to people as they talk, and asking open-ended questions that allow the person to reveal themselves.
I can
usually pick up on certain signs that a person is lying or just saying empty words that they think I want to hear. When I'm face to face in a conversation, usually I can get a pretty good sense of whether a person is being genuine and honest.
