>I am using Foxfire! 3.0+ for VFP 5.0 in an app. I an older app that my company uses, (written in FPW 2.6) that was also written using Foxfire, when editing the layout of a report, you could drop an item on the report (from the report toolbar), and in the expression builder the fialds list was populated with all of the fields from the tables that the report uses. In the new program, the fields list is blank. Micromega says this is simply the new behavior of VFP's report builder, and offered no solution except for checking the expression that a data item is based on, and manually typing that expression in the item expression box. This just won't do. My question is, how does the fields list get populated? I have a feeling that it has something to do with VFP reports having a data environment and the earlier ones not? Thanks for any insight anyone can give.>>

Erik,

I answered this a couple of weeks ago, but somehow it never appeared on the board. I don't have a copy of my reply, so I'll have to reformulate and post it now. Hopefully, it will appear on the board. This time I *WILL* make a copy!

The gist of my reply was thus:

You misread, misinterpreted or misunderstood my explanation to you about placing an item on a customized Foxfire! report. You don't have to type in the item's expression, which can be quite complicated. All you have to type in is the *Result Field Name*, which is a lot easier.

However, upon investigating, I found that your surmise that VFP allows you to pick fields from tables if you access VFP5's data environment is correct. Open the tables you want to drop fields from before launching Foxfire! and the tables will be available in the data environment. You can then drag and drop fields onto your reports.
