Rumors of the death of dBASE were around for years. All versions of xBASE including VFP have been, like the Mac, rumored to be terminal. Even if M$ stopped development tomorrow, I've got enough work to do to keep me busy till the next millenium.
Like the Mac -- we've got the momentum of a substantial installed base. For a specialized tool (which is what VFP is) we're pretty big. We'll never be M$ #1 favorite product because VFP is to complex and specialist. Volume comes from end-user sales. However, developers like us are important to M$ because we propagate systems with their logo on them somewhere and running on their OS. No they don't have the advertising budget for VFP that they have for VB etc., but that's because they're spending their $$ wisely. Mass advertising for mass market products.

A bipolar theory does not neatly describe a continuum.
Before millenium: chop wood, draw water. After millenium: chop wood, draw water.
