Title:
Using DCOM for client sever
I am about to propose to a client to upgrade to a simple client/server setup for some of their slowest tasks. They don't want to spend the money to go with a SQL server, and their main speed concern relates to running reports and packing and indexing tables. Using the ideas published in Foxpro advisor in the September issue, I think I can easily accomplish this task using COM and DCOM. My report classes (I use crystal reports) are very standalone and they rely on a SQL query to create a table which is passed to crystal reports. I figure if I can create this temporary table at the DCOM server and pass the table back (perhaps returning the location of the temporary file), I will speed up their system a lot. I wonder if anybody here has done similar things.
I am also interested in ideas, articles or whatever else that will either help me put together this proposal or that I can show my client to convince them of the potential benefits.
