We use the commtools library in our client applications to dial into our BBS system. Recently, and it appears to be ever since we released a program update moving from versions running VFP 5.0a to 6.0, clients report the error message: #2028- API call caused an exception. This happens either during a call to initialize the modem, modem_cmd, or the call to wait for a received string, cwaits. I checked the error logs, and the variables that are sent as the parameters in those API calls are valid.

From what I can tell it appears to be an intermittent occurrence, and I have not been able to duplicate it on our machines here. Our test machines run windows 98, and the clients' machines are either win95 or win98. I am investigating to see whether the machines that report this error are only win95, or if it occurs on either OS. I am also trying tech support for the commtools software, but haven't received any response yet. Has anyone else encountered this problem? Does this sound like a win95/win98 issue, and/or do certain system files need to be updated? Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.
