I think a web server is a great way to go. Web Connection is really an outstanding product. Basically, you are using the Internet as your LAN/WAN. You can access your application from anywhere that has Internet access. Very nice. But there is a learning curve, and if you use a HTML interface (a browser), your GUI does not have the functionality of a VB or VFP front end. However, web connection helps you build fat clients, VFP programs that sit on the client machine and access the VFP data over the Internet via HTTP. Very slick.
DCOM is slower than COM, but you should gain a speed advantage by having your DCOM servers right where the VFP data is. Nothing is faster for accessing VFP data than VFP itself.
