>Al, could your suggestions to Tim also apply to the Sluggish Performance I was having (posted last week) where if a second facilitie connected to the server in the main facility while the main facility was also using the app, there was severe degradation. If either the external facility or the main facility used the app without the other connected, there seemed to be no problem.

In the other thread, you have a LAN with your app installed. A remote office is connected to this LAN via 128K frame relay. If *either* a local user or a remote user runs the app, performance is good. If both run it simultaneously, it is very much slower.

I would normally expect your remote office to be slow; the frame relay connection is only about 3x as fast as a dial-up modem. I'm surprised performance is comparable to the local LAN speed over that link.

We would need to know more about the specifics of your network implementation before speculating what could be wrong. Is it possible, for example, that your LAN uses Terminal Server to support the remote office, rather than a direct connection? Is performance slow with 2 local users and no remote users?

To answer your question, the AV issue is not likely to cause the effect you're seeing. A proxy server will only be an issue if you have one on your LAN, and your proxy client is improperly configured, in which case the proxy server could become a bottleneck.
