Check with them if they used NT authentication or SQL authentication. If they used NT, then you need to be logged into the domain, which will probably be complicated, if it can be done at all - ask them to create a user with SQL authentication, it will save a lot of problems.

If they are using SQL authentication, double-check username and password with them, there's no reason it shouldn't work...
