Client hangs when reading from Excel

I have an application which opens an Excel workbook and copies the contents to a database table. Invariably, as it increments through each row of the workbook, the app freezes at record 1110 (regardless of the workbook). All my other "Office" apps, that happen to be open at the same time stop responding as well. I've monitored memory usage during the process, but it does not appear out of the ordinary. I split the workbook into several sub-1000 record workbooks. The first workbook copies successfully, but any subsequent attempt to copy hangs the client when I instantiate the new Excel object, unless I reboot between attempts. I AM closing each instance of Excel, but there seems to be some left-overs which I can't see.

I would add that while I am incrementing through the workbook, I am doing some formatting of rows (adding color) to indicate in the workbook that the record successfull was copied. When I remove the code that adds the color, I can get past the 1110 record, but it eventually hangs at 1149.

Anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?
