I think some things are better left to SPT. For example, I have to import data from a third party source. They have a unique identifier, called MGID, while I use surrogate primary keys in my table. So when I import the data, I have to:

SELECT CompanyID FROM Company WHERE MGID = lcMGID

I suppose I could create a view for this, but it seems as though at some point I will need SPT functionality.
