AFIAK it is normal for the System Idle Process to show 99% CPU when nothing else is happening, so IMO this does not indicate a problem. As you found out, adding memory helped. You are still below the recommended minimum of 256MB, but on the other hand you probably saw the reply from Chris Mccandless where he said he is running OK on 128MB. While more memory will help, up to a point, there may be other factors besides memory that are affecting performance on your particular computer. I would suggest that you go to the Windows 2000 help file and look in the section entitled "Solving Performance Problems". It lists several possible causes of performance problems and gives suggestions for tuning your system.

Good luck, and if you find anything specific that might be of value to the rest of us please post back with that information.

>Hi,

> I have add an extra 64 MB of RAM (192 MB totally) to my pc. Now, my pc don't hang on window startup. However, that is a problem also, the System idle process still take out 99% of my CPU usage. Once I tried to installed some additional software, it just hang/ slow responding. Is it caused by limited capacity of RAM also ??
