I also know a lot of tidbits that most people don't. As you said there is a lot of humor in history.

I also read Will & Ariel Durant.

Remind me some day to tell you the real story behind why and how Darwin got invited by Fitz Roy (the Captain of the Beagle) in his famous trip, and also how Fitz Roy shot Lord Canning (British Foreign Secretary at the time) in the butt in a duel.

There are many stories and as you correctly said, it depends on who wrote them.
