I don't actually try to connect to Oracle from the server Oracle is on so I do not understand your logon method. When you launch SQL*Plus, do you get a login form that asks for the User Name, Password and Host String? You need to use the Net8 Easy Config [found in the Admin Utilities of your Oracle Windows Program Group -- Start Button, Programs, etc.] to manage your host entries in the client TNSNAMES.ORA file.

If you are indeed already in SQL Plus, the syntax is:

connect username/password@hostname
