Thanks for the information, Henry. I really appreciate all the details, this will be very helpful. If the deal goes through and we end up deploying the app on this customer's network, I'll certainly recommend that they upgrade the client.

>>I've seen many threads here about being careful which Netware client is used when running VFP apps on a Novell LAN. If I remember correctly, the prevailing wisdom seems to be to use the Microsoft Client for Netware rather than the Novell client. I am currently working with a potential customer who is running Netware 4.60.202 with NT 4.0 workstations. My questions are:
>>1) are there any specific issues with this combination that I should be alert to, and
>>2) does the advice re using the MS Client for Netware apply to NT 4.0 workstations as well as to Win9x workstations?

>Rick, I'm running NT 4.0 on NetWare 5 using Novell's client 4.71 SP2. We had some pretty major issues with the 4.6 rev of the client, but upgrading to 4.7x seemed to solve them. Major issues were poor performance and an occasional disconnect from the server.
>
>I understand from my network admin that a 4.8 rev of the client is out and may even have a service pack. I'll have to check that one out. Performance was one of the main issues being addressed by the new rev.
>
>We're on rev 3.3 of the Win95 client and haven't experienced problems. In fact, I've found the 3.3 client speed to be superior to the NT client speed. We have had extremely poor performance with the W2K client, though Novell is supposedly working on a new rev that will solve that problem.
>
>We have actually had poor success here with the Microsoft client for Novell. And in addition, we run NetWare ZENWorks, an administration tool, and using the Microsoft client defeats its functionality completely. Only reason my netadmin can see for using the Microsoft client is if you didn't have ZENWorks and wanted to remotely administer the registry or remotely shutdown the workstation.
>
>I can't help but wonder if the problems with the Novell client for Win95 are due to not enough workstation memory. The Novell client is very bulky.
>
>Let me know how it works out.
