Also note that if you don't put the space between the Z and the $, then you'll get your format with the $ right up against your number instead of to the left edge of the field.

price = 50
?TRANSFORM(price,"@Z $999,999,999") -- "$ 50"

?TRANSFORM(price,"@Z$999,999,999") -- " $50"
