I have pretty much given up on the deleted flag. I create a column in my tables called iDeleted(i,4) and if the row is deleted I put a 1 in there, otherwise the default value is 0.
It makes the tables more compatible with MSSQL and Oracle, and in a grid you can use a checkbox to map the deleted state. And in the future, if you really want to get anal/fancy, you could assign other values to it, eg., 1 means deleted by a user and 2 means deleted by a manager or etc.
