All indications are it is safe. I use removable hard disks with each version of software development tools on it's own hard disk. Hard disks are cheap and I like to do things my own way. With Beta software things can get a bit tricky. I have had to reformat a hard disk with Beta software to get it to install properly. If I had loaded a Beta version on "my one and only hard disk", it could make for an unpleasant day.
