One thing I have found while tinkering with this is that with focus bouncing back and forth between the actual program form and the debug window, you don't get an accurate replication of the refresh activity. Some of the problems were chased away by including a 'Thisform.Refresh()' line toward the end of the code section and nailing down refreshes of individual screen elements that, for some reason refused to refresh individually.
