We are doing data collection using a windows CE terminal server client. It links to SBT and TIW databases, tells the production worker what work order to run next, allows him to record quality information and quantity produced, assigns a lot number and then posts to TIW/SBT. We use telxon ptc2000 units with proxim wirless network cards and and proxim access points.

It is working very well for us. We run production 24/7.

Also we are working on a web interface using web connection and pocket explorer.This will allow us to provide the salespeople with notebook computers and 56k modems. We are currently testing with the HP820 and the Sharp mobilon Tripad.

The next thing I am starting is direct connection between VB CE and Foxpro data tables. That would allow us to remove the Terminal server link. More for experimentation than anything else.
