Just a thought...

I have not found a way to tell if a combo is dropped down other than adding a property to my base combo that is set when combo.dropdown() is fired. Then when it is closed I reset the property.

Then check to see if the current control is a combo with this property and if that it set you can ignore the escape during that event.
