I have only seen one website that does this (and I go to a lot of sites).... most of them just prompt for username and password on a webpage. Unless you just want to learn this technology, I would stick with the simple solution and write it in an ASP page. If you have to serve a broad audience, you will more than likely run into problems with support for different browsers and have to code for all possible scenarios.
IOW, I would use the KISS method.
