Erik,

>What a crappy analogy. If you get invited to an Amway party, the host invited you in hopes of making money off of you. The help given here is given for free, with no expectation of profit in any form.

And the free dinner with no dessert analogy was better? Please. My extension was over the top because the original analogy was marginal at best. No one here is giving me free food (without me also giving out free food in turn), and I have never asked for dessert. What a crappy comment.

>While I think that the best response to a question about non-standard practices is a warning followed by info on how to continue if you so choose, I think that a warning is better than nothing. Yes, sometimes non-standard practices are justified, but the majority of the time, the programmer is doing it that way because he doesn't know how to do it any other way.

It is your Constitutional right to think however you wish. I have already stated my thoughts on such ideals as "standard" and "non-standard", and since they don't mean much to me, further trying to kustify them or not isn't something I care to try.

>Bottom line- the advice one gets here is free. One can take it for what its worth, or thank the giver, but biting the hand that feeds just makes one look like a jerk.

It certainly does. I am glad I don't act in such a way. Might I ask exactly to whom this comment is pointed? I haven't heard a single person on this thread "biting" anyone elses hand. I have simply heard more than a few folks voice their opinions stating that sometimes the answers that are given out on this forum are condescending and presumptive. I agreed.

As for the forum being free, that is true. But it is all about give and take. We get questions answered, and we answer the questions of others. I was merely stating an opinion in hopes to make that give and take transaction a bit cleaner.

Regards,
JoeK
