Most of the problems I have dealt with in the Novell arena have to do with the Client software that is made by Novell. If you are running W95, the Novell client designed for this OS has clearly documented problems - take a look at the Novell and Microsoft sites and there are suggestions for optimizing performance. The changes more-or-less disable the caching features of the client. If you can run the Microsoft client for Netware, you will have better performance.

If your problem is not with your network, you need to ensure that the queries you are having problems with are optimized. If you do not have an index on a field that is used in a WHERE condition, you will not get the benefit of Rushmore, and table scans will be run to check your conditions.
