If this DOT NET stuff goes cross platform, there may be good reason to do desktop apps in it too. I don't see myself doing anything more than very simple applications with a browser front end. I still believe in fat client, even for internet apps. It would be nice to be able create a full featured desktop client that runs on Mac, Linux and Windows that talks to a web server via XML.
