Are you using Outlook, or Outlook Express? I am using Outlook on Windows 2000 Server, and am able to connect to my ISP mail server across my LAN without any trouble. Well, most of the time :-). Are you connecting directly from your W2K machine to your ISP, or through a LAN like I am?

In Outlook, the connection configurations can be reached by selecting Tools, Accounts from the menu. In the Internet Accounts window, select the Mail tab. Select your account, then select Properties. In the Properties window, select the Connection tab.
