I have not followed this entire thread, so what I have to add may have already been addressed.

One of the problems I encountered when I worked on a vertical application that integrated with an accounting system is acceptance, by your clients, of the accounting package you are integrating with. You may find a great accounting package that integrates easily with your software, but that is not the primary concern of the accountants who may have a say in whether or not your client buys your package. Accountants tend to be a conservative group, and they may not easily accept an accounting package that does not have wide acceptence in the marketplace.
