You are talking more about User Defined Methods and I agree, for UDM's hooks are Ok but I am talking about events (Click, Init, Destroy, Load, Unload etc.) specaily if the objects are two or more levels deep.
I just think it's more natural/cleaner to Extend an object's behavoir than to Override it by default.

Also in many cases I use the hook methods anyway, (say, OnBeforeSave() and OnPostSave() so the custom code for the class instance is located there without the need of using DODEFAULT(). Not to mention a greater flexibility for the future changes.
