Well, actually Jesus was pointing out that spiritual issues are much more important and long lasting than physical ones. I agree with that thought.

A modern day version might be: If drinking 'stumbles' you then stop drinking. If you have to walk by a liquor store to get home and that's causing you trouble - move.

Underneath all of this is that you are responsible for making the proper choices and should so do. I couldn't agree more.

A few of the newer translations are actually pretty good and I've found it helpful to compare them between themselves. There are two major sources for modern scripture. The Textus Receptus and Westcott & Hort. There are some differences between the Textus Receptus and the work done by Westcott & Hort. I suppose I'd be in the Textus Receptus camp more than the W&H camp. Many of the so-called modern tranlations rely more on W&H than the Received Text (Textus Receptus).
