Daniel,

Your position is exactly the same as mine. However, I do have an opinion about the nature of answers to questions in a media like this.

Some people are viewed, whether they like it or not, as "gurus". I don't believe that there are any gurus, these "gurus" are only people who have screwed up before you. That aside, there are some people who are seen this way.

When one of these people is answering a question they should be aware that their answer will be taken as "gospel" by some. In situations where there is a clear "best practice" these people should be presenting that "best practice" as the "way to do things". To do otherwise is seen by many as permission to do otherwise from a "guru". This can lead *some* folks to make certain errors that they might otherwise not have made.

A knowledgeable person seeing one of these "absolute" responses could simply reply with the statement that there really are no absolutes and that would clear up the situation for all involved. However, to argue with the "best practice" and try to create examples where that practice is not optimal only serves to confuse the lurkers and less experienced, who comprise the majority of the audience.

To engage in a technical discussion where there is no effort to "win" the argument is a much better avenue to elicit more detailed information about the subject at hand.
