>Come to think of it, I was taught that programming ability is not language-specific. It's a process that transcends the language in which the programming is done. It's the ability to solve problems, not the ability to write flawless code that's important.

When I was a mere child at the University and in my final year on a Math degree, I used to get large chuckles out of the CompSci majors whinein' about 'ALL THE MATH CLASSES' that they had to take. Why, that's why they were majoring in CompSci...so they could write a PROGRAM to solve all of their math problems. I kept trying to tell them that it wasn't the MATH they were necessarily expected to learn, it was the LOGIC of problem solving they were expected to learn. You'd be amazed how many blank stares I got back.
