>>>I stand by my statement. Mr. Clinton just today is going to 'grab' some 60 million acres of land and 'protect' them.

>>Good! If it does anything to stop Messrs. Bush and Cheney from handing Alaska over to their buddies at the oil companies to dig up, more power to him! I don't have much to criticize to rest of their platform on, but to me, the plans to dig up Alaska and to fund the missile defence shield reek of nothing other than greed and croneyism. I also really doubt in this day and age that people outside the US are just gonna roll over and let the good Dubya do whatever the hell he pleases in their back yards (pipelines, etc.). Good luck!

No - nothing that bad - we're starting to see the very first wave of hybrid (gas/electric) and fuel cell vehicles - I think that's part of a real answer to our dependance on petroleum - less dependance, not more petroleum. While vehicles don't account for the whole dependance, I have to bet it accounts for a big chunk of it, and that's why I'm really cynical about this Alaska business - what's the point of wrecking environments for more fuel that you're going to need less of over the next 20 years? The whole point is that the oil companies have got a real narrow window of opportunity to justify this for domestic needs, after which they get to sell it wherever they want forever.
