I agree with Erik. One thing to bear in mind, a lot of AMD PCs are "value" machines where rock-bottom cost is/was paramount. Corners may have been cut on components other than the CPU, the machines may not have been configured (BIOS, hardware drivers etc.) with the same TLC that may go into performance boxes, and you might even get some vendors messing around with CPU overclocking.
