Thanks for your comments, I went searching the NET and found that Paradox files need the Borland Data Engine installed. I did this and bingo, the MS v5 ODBC driver works. The only problem is that it takes around 2.5 minutes to copy 1000 records from VFP to Paradox.

This may cause a problem, because I have around 120,000 records in three files to move, then I have to SCAN a Paradox file of around 50,000 records to replace 1 field in each record.

Looks like what would be only a couple of minutes work in VFP only tables will be an overnighter.
