You're probably right in that I was reading a little too much into Craig's words but the briefness of his reply ("This is something you shouldn't mess with. The user should change that in control panel."), in my mind at least, had the tone of "I know what I'm talking about & you should do what I say, without need for explanation". As I've just replied to Ed Rauh, with a few extra seconds effort, just mentioning it is against the published Windows guidelines would have at least given a different tone & possibly guided the questioner in the right direction to useful information.
